These are the Excel spreadsheets used for the calculations described on these pages
Method 2 - Using Slices - From a Pottery Illustration
Potslice_int_rad.xls is for the illustrations. At the top of the spreadsheet is entered the height of the vessel as measured from the enlarged illustration and the real height.
These 2 values are used to calculate the scale factor that is used to convert the measured radius to the real radius.
Also at the top is entered the height of the slices so this can be changed from 10 mm if required.
In column B is entered the values of internal radius as measured from the illustration.
A chart is included in the spreadsheet to show the profile of the vessel, this will show if any values have been entered incorrectly.
On the second page of the spreadsheet (named INFO) there are brief instruction.

Method 2 - Using Slices - From a Pottery Photography
Potslice_ext_dia.xls is for the photograph. This has the same values at the top as for Potslice_int_rad but also has the thickness of the vessel. We are assuming that the vessel has a constant thickness.
In column B is entered the values of external diameter as measured from the photograph.
A chart is included in the spreadsheet to show the profile of the vessel, this will show if any values have been entered incorrectly.

Method 3 - Using Regular Shapes
This spreadsheets contains 2 calculations for a double truncated cone and for a single truncated cone.
Use which ever is nearer in shape to your vessel.
